Sample One Year List
I've been trying to formulate our one year survival food list. (2 adults, man and wife)
I'm sure some samples are available on this thread, however, I couldn't find any with my limited searching skills. Thanx for any help. S |
Re: Sample One Year List
Start with Hundred pounds of rice, hundred pounds of flour, hundred pounds of sugar, 10 gallons vegetable oil, a dozen or so boxes of mashed potatoes, peanut buter, honey, coffee, tea, some Boxes of pasta, Bisquick, brown gravy mix, salt, cocoa mix, yeast a hundred cans of each of the following:
Tuna spam soup dinty moore beef stew roast beef hash. Throw in a few cases of MRE's, and a 5cases each of granola bars, and hershey bars.... Then fill the freezer with meat and frozen OJ, and you are all set |

It seems that it's light on the dry grains, ie I'm thinking more like 300 lbs ea. of flour, rice and oats. Just my first take, and I do appreciate the reply. S |

Dont get bisquick. Bisquick is nothing more than basicaly self rising flour, flour that has the baking soda mixed in it. This makes it harder to store for long periods. Get AP flour, Bread Flour(high gluten) and store your chemical leaveners in oxy packed or sealed canisters. Get as much honey and sugar as you can. Neither spoil, are very sweet and can make a boring every day meal into something totaly different. Both can also be used for minor topical wounds if you have nothing else and honey is very healthy anyways. You're missing the most important thing though...WATER! Vaccum pack anything youll throw in the freezer, itll last much, much longer that way. Dont rely on a fridge though, power might go in and out. I would defently get as much salt as you can carry. 20lbs minium. Salt will be a great assest if, for whatever reason, your power goes out and your fridge quits. You've got all the meat in there, whatcha gonna do? Boom, break out that salt, now you've got slated pork, beef, etc and you've just extended the shelf life outside of the fridge. Anyways, the OP can find out most of this stuff here, and fullpowers list is a great, economical starter. Just felt some minor revisions from experience could be thrown in. Powdered and Canned milk wouldnt hurt to have in there either. Canned chicken or other canned meats too to help break up the menu. Be carefull of food fatigue. People can go crazy eating the same thing day after day after day and lots of people actualy will stop eating, even with food available, because of a repeated diet, which is dangerous as well. Anyways, this could go on and on and on and on. so Ill end it here. Just keep browsing the the survival prep and youll find a wealth of info. |
Re: Sample One Year List
At this late date, you may not have as much prep time as you could wish for. Perhaps you should start with the basics and then expand as time allows.
When I first started I purchased: 100 lbs flour 100 lbs rice 200 lbs legumes (small whites, lentils, split peas, black-eyed peas, etc.) 60 lbs coffee 50 lbs corn meal 50 lbs rolled oats 50 lbs sugar 20 lbs instant mashed potatoes 20 lbs pancake mix 20 lbs barley 20 lbs salt 20 lbs baking soda (doubles as toothpaste, deoderant, first aid salve) 10 lbs dehydrated onions 10 gal. dry milk 5 gal syrup 5 gal. vinegar (doubles as cleaning agent) 5 gal. honey 5 lbs chicken & beef boullion cubes (for soups & gravies) 3 gal soy sauce Everything except coffee and honey is cheap, and just picking up the items on this list will feed you for a year. Supplemented by fish or game it will last even longer. Once you have something to put in your belly for a year, start launching out into canned meats, vegetables, fruits, spices, and other "luxuries." JMO. Hope it helps. |
Re: Sample One Year List
Store what you eat! Eat what you store!
* You know how to cook everything you have. * You know you have all related ingredients, condiments, etc. * You have no change of diet, ever. * It's easy to see how fast you use things so you can stock the right amount for a desired length of time. * You know when you run short and need to restock. * You no longer need to explain "preps" to incredulous friends. Your are merely stocking up at sale prices! |
Re: Sample One Year List
Thanx for all of the replies.
It'll get us started on a good list for our family. We currently have about 60% of what I imagine the final list to be but have never made an actual list. We sure need lots more sugars and oils. After I store for the first year, I'll expand it as it seems expedient. I whole-heartedly agree that "Store what you eat, eat what you store". I've just never itemized a good list before. Anyway Thanx S |
Re: Sample One Year List
A couple other quick thoughts. Whatever oils you buy, make sure they come in glass or metal containers. Plastic will allow oxygen in and cause the oil to go rancid more quickly. And, while I know it will raise howls of protest from the food purists here, Crisco in the big metal tin has an indefinite shelf life. I bought one of those for long-term storage, hoping I'll never have to use it.
I'd sure rather see you buy a grain mill and store whole grains. Wheat berries store much longer than flour and whole wheat is better nutritionally as well. Unless you rotate stock and do a heck of a lot of baking, 100 pounds of flour is going to go bad on you. |
Re: Sample One Year List
Oz Waver has a great list in the back of his "Surviving the NWO" e-book.. it's a great list

I prefer unbleached white, but would live with whole wheat as required. S |
